April showers bring May wildflowers

Red columbine, Aquilegia canadensis, is a native spring wildflower with red and yellow bell-like flowers that attract hummingbirds.

Large flowered trillium, Trillium grandiflorum, is a spring woodland wildflower with leaves, petals, and sepals in groups of three. Its stem is topped with a whorl of green leaves from which a single flower emerges.

Help Budburst find these two important Chicagoland native species!

Banish bush honeysuckles & This dame is trouble

Help Budburst find these invasive plants so they can be better controlled!

Bush honeysuckles, Tatarian, Lonicera tatarica, Morrow, L. morrowii, and Amur, L. maackii, are shrub-like honeysuckles. Previously recommended as ornamentals and erosion control, they are now destructive.

Dame’s rocket, Hesperis matronalis, has hairy stems with white to purple flowers and grows in a dense monoculture.
